About Andrew

At 31 years of age, Andrew Hawkins has already forged a distinguished career across many facets of the racing and sports industry, including journalism, corporate communications, broadcasting, syndication, form analysis, bookmaking and administration.

A journalist by trade, Andrew launched Halcon Co. in 2022 in order to provide content, research, consulting and race planning solutions to the horse racing industry in Australia and further afield.
This came after he fulfilled a racing communications role with the Victoria Racing Club as well as acting as Highclere Australia's racing manager, with Andrew bringing both roles across to his new Halcon Co. venture.

Previously, he served as ANZ Bloodstock News editor and a presenter with Sky Racing, primarily focused on international racing. He returned to Australia in 2018 after five years in Hong Kong, working as both a racing content specialist with the Hong Kong Jockey Club and a reporter and sub-editor with the South China Morning Post, Asia's largest English-language newspaper.

His work has won a number of awards, including the inaugural Longines Racing Writer Award for his 2015 Hong Kong International Races coverage, while he was recognised in both the Fitzdares 35 Under 35 (global) and the Melbourne Racing Club's 40 Under 40 (Australia-wide) list of influential young people in the racing industry.

Early in his career, he worked as a journalist for Just Horse Racing before branching out under his own "Andrew Hawkins Racing" banner, freelancing for some of the world's premier racing publications. In that capacity, he has covered some of the world's biggest races, including meetings in Canada, France, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Macau, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.

He worked as an analyst with Centrebet, appearing on their form show Racing Room, and occasionally stood in as the face of Centrebet. He then worked with Luxbet as a bookmaker and content manager.

He has been involved in ownership in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates, while he also worked as an assistant judge at Australian Turf Club meetings in Sydney.

One of the first to embrace online communities, Andrew is acknowledged for his presence on Twitter and other forums and is often consulted by racing organisations about their digital footprint.

He graduated with a journalism degree from Charles Sturt University’s Bathurst campus in December 2012. He completed half of his final year overseas at the University of Limerick in Ireland.

Andrew's biggest dream in racing is to win the Lexus Melbourne Cup, while his ultimate career goal outside of racing is to work at an Olympic Games.
